About the Welsh Springer Spaniel

Welsh Springer Spaniels (also endearingly called “WSS” or “Welshies”) are a type of rare spaniel, or flushing bird dog. They are an ancient breed, dating back when falcons and nets were used for bird hunting.

Welshies are heavy-boned and have moderate coat & furnishings. They are adoring to their family but may be reserved around strangers. They range from 35-55 pounds and are always red and white in color. Welsh Springer Spaniels may have docked or natural tails. We opt to keep the natural tails on our puppies.

  • Welsh make wonderful family dogs. They are incredibly loyal and loving, though they can be reserved with strangers. Welsh have moderate energy levels and can fit many different lifestyles.

    To ensure your Welsh Springer Spaniel puppy is set up for success, early socialization and positive reinforcement should be prioritized.

  • Yep! Welsh Springer Spaniels are moderate shedders. Their additional furnishings on the their legs, belly, and tail require additional grooming to keep them mat-free.

  • Welsh Springers typically weigh between 35 and 55 pounds when grown, with males weighing more then females.

    They are between 17-19 inches at the shoulders, making them larger than Cocker Spaniels and English Cocker Spaniels, but shorter than English Springer Spaniels.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME…
Juliet is an absolutely stunning girl and we are just so lucky to call her “ours”.

Juliet is an AKC Champion and is halfway to her Grand Championship. With limited showing, she has been awarded Group Placements and multiple Best in Show Owner-Handled. In addition to conformation, Juliet has earned here Canine Good Citizen and is actively training in agility and scentwork. Outside of sports, Juliet is adored as an office dog and prefers to spend her time cuddled up in her favorite peoples’ laps — the other spare time spent chasing squirrels!

Juliet is the matriarch of the household, and we love her for that! She has very strong opinions about proper and polite dog manners and is an excellent puppy-raiser. She loves people and attention, but will choose her family members over saying “hi” to strangers, if given the choice.

In September 2025, Juliet welcomed her first litter of puppies (Norton x Juliet). As expected, she was a wonderful mother — but very eager to get back to being the center of attention.
